Position Overview:
As a Product Content Manager, you will eliminate knowledge gaps that exist between our technology solutions and our customers’ audit, risk, and compliance challenges. To be successful in this role, you will see beyond buttons and features. You will contribute to the organization’s vision, managing strategic content initiatives and laying scalable and maintainable foundations for content production and delivery. You’ll be a recognized leader within the team, creating, and enabling the creation of, multi-channel, single-sourced content that answers the real questions our users have.
This demonstrated leader of makers focuses on managing the associate, intermediate, and senior members of the team. Works to nurture and develop talent and identify future leaders. Part operational and part strategic, translates strategic goals into operational objectives, ensuring the work of individual contributors always moves the team closer to its objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day guidance and support to your early career team members, helping them translate the department’s vision into clear, actionable tasks for technical content creation. Ensure they understand the roadmap and how their work contributes to broader goals.
- Ensure that individual contributors are consistently aligned with the team’s strategic objectives. Actively monitor their progress to make sure they are producing high-quality work that moves the team forward, and that they understand the impact of their contributions.
- Address common challenges in content creation, such as usability, findability, and readability. Help your team navigate these obstacles by fostering clear communication and collaboration between authors, content, and their target audience.
- Support your writers directly on a daily basis, ensuring they stay productive and meet deadlines while maintaining a high standard of quality in their work. Provide regular feedback and constructive guidance to help them grow and succeed.
- Leverage data and research to make informed decisions about content performance and team effectiveness. Foster a culture where your team uses data to improve their work and understand how it impacts customer outcomes, not just metrics.
- Handle difficult conversations effectively, maintaining professionalism and ensuring boundaries are respected. Advocate for the best interests of the team and business, making tough decisions and saying no when necessary.
- Provide clear, actionable feedback and instructions to your team, but also focus on empowering them to develop their skills and become more self-sufficient in the long term.
- Set clear expectations for your direct reports and follow up regularly to ensure those expectations are met. Take proactive steps to address issues early and provide ongoing coaching and support as needed.
- Lead by example by contributing to content creation and demonstrating technical writing best practices. As a contributing manager, you balance managerial duties with hands-on work to model the skills and standards expected from your team.
- Spend up to 60% of your time focused on supporting your team, helping them develop their skills, and ensuring they meet their goals. The remaining 40% is spent collaborating with peers and senior leadership. Regularly meet with your direct reports, typically on a weekly basis, to offer guidance and check in on progress.
- Participate in or lead operational meetings such as standups and planning sessions as needed, providing guidance to keep projects on track and ensuring your team’s contributions are aligned with overall objectives.
Required Experience/Skills
- 10+ years of relevant experience in technical writing.
- 5+ years of experience as a lead writer or a manager.
- End-to-end technical documentation experience in structured authoring environment.
- 2+ years of program management experience and ability to track work via JIRA tickets and/or any other tools or artifacts.
- Experience in people management, managed a team of at least 5 technical writers, conducted performance evaluations and goal setting.
- Educational qualification: Graduate or postgraduate degree in English/ Communications/ Engineering.
